We did it!
The last of the Rockies escorted us out and onto the start of the rolling green flat lands to sounds we are familiar with, moo’ing and nay’ing.
The sun was out, the wind up our bums and we reached speeds on the straight roads of up to 42 kms per hour. A re-newed energy kicked in and we arrived to the outskirts of Calgary in 4 hours or so, bound for Tristan Telle and his family.
Advised to stay off the Highway 1 through the city itself due to manic drivers, we stayed on it to join them as manic cyclists. Only one raised finger the whole curbside ride, pointing us in the direction we needed to keep on we think. Not!
As we found Tristan’s home, we were warmly greeted by Dennis and soon united with Sherry his parents. Again the hospitality was lovely … and what a special end to the day it turned out to be.
It was Sherry’s birthday and therefore we got to attend our second birthday bash in a row, meeting more of Tristan’s siblings and Grand parents. Playing a drinking game called ‘beersbee’ after 123 kms cycled wasn’t the smartest re-hydration strategy. Don’t try that at home!!!!
Vancouver to Calgary by tandem, a touch of the glass and bottle rim to salute the journey travelled thus far.
